This copy was sold at auction in Amsterdam in 1818 and 1891, in both instances with a reference to Cornelis Guldewagen (1599-1663), ‘Raad en Burgemeester van Haarlem’.2 The catalogue descriptions formed the basis for the identification of the sitter in the painting [5] on which the present drawing was based. They also established the connection with the 1663 painted Portrait of Agatha van der Horn by Jan de Braij (c. 1626/27-1697) [6], a drawn copy of which (D88) was featured in the 1818 and 1891 sales as the present drawing’s companion piece. Both likenesses, painted when the sitters were 60 years old, are painted on panel and have identical dimensions.
